A budget proposal is a working budget that can be adjusted without affecting the live budget in requests and reports. It can be exported for review and collaboration.
Proposals can be made for current or future fiscal years.
Create
- Go to Budgets
- Click Add → Budget proposal
- Name it, set the fiscal year it would apply to, and pick what to base it on
The budget year you base on determines the starting set of categories and amounts. Choose a blank slate to start from scratch.

Enter proposed budget amounts in the Proposed column. Your changes are saved automatically.
- Compare to lets you select reference points from historical budgets: the amount budgeted, or the amount actually used.
- Trend history controls the graphical representation of how budget use has changed over time.
- Change always compares to the budgeted amount from the year the proposal is based on.
To drop a category, click the × on its row. Restore that category by using the undo button that appears in its place. You cannot adopt a proposal with a dropped category that has anything charged to it. Move those charges to a new category before adopting.

Adopt
Once you are satisfied with the proposed changes, you can Adopt the proposed budget, which will apply all of your modifications to the target budget year. Adoption cannot be automatically undone, but a copy of the proposal is saved for reference and can be used to see what changed.
Reference
Adopted proposals are kept for reference and can be found under Proposal History at the bottom of the budget page or the Proposals button while a draft is open.
